hello all! im new to the board and new to lugers...recently my grandfather passed and left me a 1915 luger artillery model...its in very good shape from what i can tell by comparing to other similar models I saw for sale on gunbroker.

I'm trying to find out what it might be worth since the real high dollar guns on gunbroker didn't seem to be moving...condition wise i would say it's about the same or better as the ones listed for 3500+. But like I said, they dont seem to be moving so i didnt know if those prices were inflated or people just aren't buying right now. all numbers match except the one stamped on the wood floor plate of the magazine.

Any ideas on what I might have? are some serials better than others?

I'm sure these questions have been asked before but I'm not very computer savvy, I hope im not being a pain....Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Welcome Joe, $3500 is high retail for a matching artillery in good condition with original finish. I see them at gun shows in OK for $2700 to $3000. Post some photos if you want opinions on value on your luger. There are other factors as well, is it a "rig"? Holster, board stock?

thanks for the help everyone!

Its just the gun, I guess the original holster never made it here because the holster I received it in is more modern. The finish is in pretty remarkable condition(bright/shiny/smooth) considering the age but it was stored without being wiped down/oiled i'm assuming because it does have some spotting on the front and back of the handle and along the edges of the grips, and a couple other places have a tiny bit also. I could probably strip it down completely and clean a good bit of it off but it looks like its never been apart except field stripped so I didn't know if that would be a factor as far as the value is concerned ..I will try to get some good pics posted by tommorow. My fiance pointed out that if you subtract the last digit of the serial from each of the first 3 it comes out to the number of the beast...lol, only a girl....

I do not understand where the "sight adjuster" mismatch value came from. Good detailed pics are needed for any kind of guestamate on value. John

Ok, just saw other post on the part search.... John

Under the barrel (serial), front of the frame (serial and suffix), field stripped, top of frame and underside of upper reciever and barrel (rails). Make sure the flash is off and post only photos that are in focus, keep taking them over if you have to. Proofs on the right side (in focus) serial on the left (in focus) JB

Shoot your pics outside if possible for good color rendition, or use the flash to fill in shadows (as better cameras white balance automatically for it). Your camera is not "White Balanced" properly. The yellow overtone is misleading. The "Strawed Parts" appear too golden for a 97 yr old LP 08. Collector value comes from something being totally original in all aspects. The missing part seriously affects that, and if the Small parts have been re-strawed, again, even more so. Otherwise, it's a nice looking item. Hold on to it until the New Year (if you can) as there is likely to be another arms buying binge. A "shooter" grade LP 08 usually sells for $1300-1600 IMHO.

its all original, the "gold" in pictures is pretty accurate to real life.

Take a few pics on a different background, that yellow rag is hurting my brain, I don't like the color of the strawed parts, the interior is in the white but the finish on the rest of the gun bugs me a bit as well.

Take heart, your LP08 appears to be in excellent original finish and a 1915 DWM is second only to the 1914 DWM in scarcity. It's value has, of course, been hurt by the missing sight adjuster but it is well worth restoring. With the properly numbered complete sight I would estimate its value at $3500

When it comes to LP08s, George (keoki7) is about as close to a professional appraiser as you will find, and it didn't cost you a dime.

P.S. I guess my brain is already fried...the yellow background didn't bother me and actually it is a fairly decent color to show the condition of the blue.

Agree. The pictures you posted verified original finish, and the 1915 is not an easy LP.08 to find. Good luck in finding the sight slide.

There are settings on your camera for various types of lighting to get the color correct. The auto setting does pretty good, but not as good as setting it to the type of lighting you are using. Probably the easiest lighting to get correct is outside in the shade.
