I picked up a 1910 DWM at a small gun show that was unit marked
127.R2M.G.61. (no hold open added).

I believe this is:

127th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Machine Gun Company, Weapon # 61.

Is this correct and does anyone have more info / history of the unit ?

You are exactly right.

Note: Like your Luger the Luger in the link (1908 DWM, SN 1173, 127TH WURTT. INF. REGT)also does not have a hold open added.
