Hi all,

Here is the second installment I promised to Jan, 1911 Erfurt 3730ns 13.A.F.1.4. You can see from the photos this one is not as well preserved as my 1911 DWM. Several items to note, the Erfurt arsenal did not do any pistols for commercial distribution so the serial number placements are in the military, exposed style. 3730ns has had the hold open added and is proofed for the rework. This must have taken place before 1916 as the sear bar is not relieved. There is a Crown/RC stamp on the inside of one of the grip panels, does anyone know if this was done when the hold open was added? Or would this be indicative of other issues? The eagle stamp on the rear toggle pin is also unusual, I have heard of this but I don't know if it was common. 3730ns also has a matching magazine with double crown/letter stamps. Unlike the pistol the magazine is in excellent condition with little or no rust or corrosion. The magazine does not appear to be rebuilt or re-bodied.

3730 is unit marked to Fuss Artillery regiment 13 Battery 1 Weapon #4. Noll (pg 177) puts some batteries the 13 Regiment in the 27th Division from 1914 to 1917, but does not list Battery 1. Histories of 251 Divisions of the German which Participated in the war 1914-1918 (pg 370)only indicates the 13 Regiment in 1916-1916 and again in 1918. Histories list the following for 1918 "13 F.A. Rgt. 4 Abt. 13 Ft. A. Rgt. (11, 12, and 13 Batries)" In 1917 the 13 A. F. Reg. was assigned to the 242 Division. The 27th was a highly regarded division that saw action throughout the war.

If you want to see additional specific pictures let me know what you want to see and I will try to take them and post.

Jan,

I forgot to mention that I have acquired another 1911. It's a 1920/1911 circle S marked Simpson rework in the d serial block. I can't remember the serial number and don't want to guess about it. I don't have the gun in my possession yet but will have in a week or two. I will post pictures then. I don't think there were unit marks other than the police unit designation but I will check when I get it.

Bob, did you see the Circle S in the Weimar section? If not, take a look and when you get it, can I get high resolution pictures of it? :)

Ed,
I just went and looked at the circle S posted in the Weimar section of the forum. The one I bought looks similar to your 1920 as far as the circle S goes, not a complete circle. I will take a hi res picture of it when I get the gun and send it to you via e-mail. Let me know if there's anything else you want to see in high resolution.

Thanks,
Bob M.

Ed,

I will send you pic's of the Simpson rework in high resolution and post some smaller files here on the web site. Do you have a limit on the size of picture your mail server will accept? I can get some fairly large files in high resolution mode.
