1911 Unit Mark ID?

1125 Views 3 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  Dwight Gruber
I got a brief look this afternoon at a 1911 DWM with a unit mark which I believe to be B.1.T.S.1.xxx. This may not be a completely accurate transcription.

I don't see anything in Görtz & Bryans which matches this, although the T. is pretty clearly Train. I'll be getting a better look at this gun tomorrow, in the meantime can anybody give me a good idea of what this mark means?

Its a fairly common marking. Here are a couple of Lugers marked as you described:

*1911 DWM, s/n 1166e : B.1.T.S.3.171. - (Bayerisches, 1 Train-Bataillon, Sanitäts-Kompagnie 3, Waffe Nr. 171)
*1911 DWM, s/n 1046e : B.1.T.S.3.68. - (Bayerisches, 1 Train-Bataillon, Sanitäts-Kompagnie 3, Waffe Nr. 68)

Jan,

Thanks much for the info. Photos will be forthcoming in a few weeks.
