1912 STEYR HAHN, BAVARIAN (GERMAN ARMY) CONTRACT, SN 13118

The 1912 Steyr Hahn was manufactured by Osterreichische Waffenfabrik at Steyr, Austria for the Austria-Hungary military from 1912 to 1918(corrected Jan 25, 2005). It was called the hammer model to distinguish it from the hammer less Roth Steyr. The Austria-Hungary military 1912 Steyr Hahn’s are serial numbered in blocks of 10,000 (from 1 to 10,000) with sequential alphabetic suffix. Approximately 300,000 were produced.

Osterreichische Waffenfabrik at Steyr, Austria also manufactured the 1912 Steyr Hahn for the German Army during 1916 and 1918. These are identified by their date, 1916 or 1918, and lack of letter suffix (most went to Bavaria). They bear Austrian proofs and are not German accepted or proofed (Prussian eagles are found on the trigger guard of a very few). The following are reported (27 are dated 1916 and 19 are dated 1918.):

Hi,

I am trying to establish the facts on a steyr hahn I just inherited. On the right trigger guard it has the Austrian Eagle W-n 17 for 1917 I assume. Serial # is 5841w. Steyr 1917 on the slide

Can you tell me if there is anything of further interest about my pistol?

What are these guns valued at? No holster.

Thanks

Keith

Can anyone help me identify a Steyr-Han 1917 with these markings?

On the right trigger guard: W Eagle (not the Austrian eagle) 26, and the serial number 18 A(in larger case) 83 on the left trigger guard.

You said the Military M12 Steyr guns were produced for the Army from 1914 to 1919.Were some 1919 specimens Army weapons? The only guns 1919 dated I have seen were "commercial" ones(NPv-eagle proofed) or 08 marked guns produced after 1st of Januari 1940(they bear the eagle-over-N proof)from leftover parts.More I can say that a part of the "commercial" 1919 bunch(perhaps all?) were produced for the Italian Army as"war damage repair".I beg your pardon for my poor English again.

I made a mistake. I should have said 1918. It has been corrected above. Thanks for pointing out the error.

Here's another S/N for your Bavarian contract Steyr Hahns. WN14 S/N 5419. I found it in a junk shop for $20. Of course the fact that it was in 1959 might have some bearing on the price!

Hello Jan
I have STEYR 1915 S.N. 9947 with what looks like a "g" suffix, but noticed there are no suffixs noted on any of the serial numbers already listed. Wn15 on right trigger guard.

I am sorry I put this in the wrong place and am not sure how to move it.
Thanks

Thanks for the information. Your Steyr Hahn is a 1915 dated Austro-Hungarian military (not German). I will add the data to the Austro-Hungarian section.

Since I have not read anything about manufacturer's markings on Bavarian Steyr Hahn holsters, I thought the markings on my holster may be of interest. The top of the marking is all but illegible. It appears to be SATTLER ENO???? SCHATT in an arch over MUNCHEN. The "U" MUNCHEN is topped by 2 dots. MUNCHEN is of course Munich. My best guess at the illegible letters make the name SATTLER ENOSSEN SCHATT. This marking is about 1/2" long by 3/8" high and is die stamped just to the left of the stripper clip pouches. Has anyone heard of this company or a company with a name spelled close to this?

Another German Steyr Hahn holster marked AWM / 16 and maker marked. A 1916 dated German Steyr Hahn came in this holster and was reported captured with this holster at the end of World War II.

I got a steyer hann pistol dated 1916, it has markings on the lanyard ring (right side 213) left side (94R and a small stamp that appears like a griffins head), on the front of the grip is marked Z.W.195. anyone know what these marks may mean
