I have seen a 1914 DWM. It has unit markings of 22.R.R.M.G.76. Looking at Mr. Noll's book I believe that translates to the 22nd Infantry Regiment, the 76 Machine Gun Company. Or does the R.R. translate to the Recruiting Regiment? Thanks Jim

Jimmie is there a slash between the 22 and the first R ? -> 22/R.R.

I would be willing to bet that it's 22nd Reserve Regiment. It doesn't make sense for a Recruit Depot to have a MG company. Unless it was to keep the recruits from making a break for it.

Jimmie, There is the definitive explanation, from the acknowledged unit mark expert. Jeff Noll is a walking encyclopedia of unit mark information. Buy his book, before he decides to sell it for what it's actually worth. You won't regret it. http://home.earthlink.net/~nopubl/
