1914 type navy thumb safety numbering

As I understand it, 1914 type navies were numbered in the "Commercial" style. Kenyon, p34 indicates that commercial style numbering did not include the thumb safety lever. I have seen several examples, mine included, without numbering. However, Kenyon p157 illustrates a 1916 navy that looks like it has its safety numbered.
Jan's Imperial Lugers, frontpiece 15a seems to show a serial also. Anyone have any thoughts about this?

Thanks, Bruce

Hi,
I have a 1914 Navy dated 1917 #3258. The safety lever is not numbered
and the sear bar is numbered (58).
