I acquired this 1916 DWM Luger with a 1916 dated holster 20 years ago. It's a standard WWI German issue w/o grip strap markings. It came with two wood bottom but non-matching WWI magazines. But I do know some of its WWII history. It came with capture papers and I spoke with the GI who brought it home: He wrote how he obtained it.

"German Luger s/n1065f was captured by me, then a 1st Sargent with the 3417th Ord. Main. Co. US Army, on or about
Jul y 11, 1944 in France after the Battle of the Falaise Gap. I took the Luger from the body of a German Army Officer who had been killed in the 4 day artillery and ariel bombing of the trapped German forces. "

The black 1916 dated holster is marked 12/ J.R.7.89. Jeff Noll tells me this means: "I believe your marking is from the Weimar period. It translates to 12th Company/Infantry Regiment 7, holster 89. "J" and "I" are used interchangable in some German markings. It dates back to the time that time Fractur was used (I & J had the same character). Your marking is classic from the Weimar Regimental marking regulations."
