Tony, I`m no expert on Simson`s, but my opinion is that Simson started new production in 1925. (1923 Simson is a misnomer)They dated them thru the rest of that year and into the begining of 1926, then stopped dating them. (perhaps they were violating some Versaille treaty restriction and thought they could hide production figures better with blank chambers?)I don`t see how a 27 or 28 date could be real but I have never seen one.As for a 26 date over 1000,I guess it`s possible but you would be safer with a number under 700.Simsons are undervalued Lugers, they are rarer than Kreighoffs, at least in my experience.

I am hoping to get some expert information on 1925-1926 Simson Lugers. According to Still book, the serial number shown for the 1925 goes from 28-595. 1926 Simsom known guns are 647, 656, 684. This range would put production to about 500-600 guns per year. Could it be possible to encounter a 1926 Simson with serial number above 1000? Does anyone know of other 1926 Simson’s with serial number higher than the 684 reported? Are the only one 1927 or 1928 supposedly reported the real thing? Why would they only make a couple of guns? What is the value of a 1925 or 1926 Simson, lets say 90% or better?

Tony,The highest 1925 I know of is #595.The highest 1926 I know of is 684.( the low is 647, reported on the forum)the only other known 26 date is #656.The supposed 1927 is #721, the supposed 1928 is #873.Simson did not start over with number one every year, so if the 27 and 28 date guns are correct Simson was making about 100 guns a year! Where are the 27 and 28 "examples" now? Perhaps the owner will let them be evaluated by the members? Doug
