Hi guys, so a few months ago I acquired this very nice condition mauser p38 byf 44. I received this as partial trade for a 1942 Colt 1911 A1. I'm curious to see how I did on the trade? Looking at comparables I've seen these going for $1,500 Plus. What do y'all think? I gave the gentleman about $1,000 off of my list price for the colt. The "story" goes that the gentleman I acquired it from bought it off an elderly Argentinian woman whose husband had been a soldier in the German army during WWII before they met. When they moved to the United States he brought the gun with him. After he died she sold it because she didn't want a gun in the house with the grandkids. Supposedly he was an SS officer. I know I know every luger and every WWII firearm was an SS gun however the timeframe and the story do seem to fit as I know many German officers moved to Argentina after the war. The gun is in excellent mechanical and physical condition with a bright shiny bore and strong lands and grooves. Overall I'd rate it an 8.5 out of 10 with the only finish wear appearing to be holster wear on the front sight, muzzle tip, and front strap. Tooling marks are strongly noticable under what I believe is about 90% original finish being most noticable on the trigger ,hammer, trigger guard and safety well. I doubt there is any way to authenticate the SS tie in but it does add some flavor if not value to this piece of history. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
