I have a 38H passed down from my Dad. Serial number 456868 with Eagle N stamp. He passed before he could share any info on the pistol. I was hoping the forum could tell me a little bit about her. Thank you.

Production period: October 1944
The original grips were marked Ia and were made of Bakelite without any filler material in them. Consequently they broke easily. The grips on your pistol are "homemade". They were made by someone skilled in woodwork. The thumbsafety disappeared about 4 thousand pistols later. Enjoy the pistol! Jim Cate

On the Saure 38h pistols I would like to know the difference between Eagle C and Eagle F?
Also can you tell me the date of my pistol? - serial number 498748 Eagle F
Thank you Dave

eagle-F ("E/F") and eagle-C ("E/C") are "acceptance marks" of two different police inspector's responsible for accepting or rejecting pistols at the Sauer plant. Normally the different inspectors worked during different time periods, with one or two exceptions:

268260 - 275920 E/C
275921 - 276882 E/F and E/C
276892 - 278786 E/F (but one E/C 278752)
279301 - 481843 E/C
486980 - 504777 E/F

Hopefully Jim Cate will come along and clear things up
