The ubiquitous asterisk mark appears on many types of WWII German guns. It is believed, in some collector circles, to represent a rejection mark and when the part was brought back into tolerance, it was used in a gun.
I don't think it would really have any effect for me. It is part of the history of the gun and overall condition is more important. Just my 2 cents worth......
