Does anyone know for sure if Lugers have appeared on the market or in collections from the Amberg arsenal? Jim

The Royal Arsenal at Amberg did not manufacture Lugers. During the period in which Amberg was manufacturing arms for the Imperial forces of Germany, only DWM and Erfurt made Lugers. Of those two, DWM was a private company contracted to make Lugers while Erfurt was, like Amberg, a Royal Arsenal. Erfurt also made rifles and machineguns. I'm not certain if Amberg made anything other than rifles except that they didn't make Lugers. There were also Royal Arsenals at Danzig in what's now Poland and in Spandau, a part of Greater Berlin. The few examples of Spandau-marked Lugers are considered by most collectors to be fakes.
Amberg also produced the 98a from 1909-1911; the 98/05 bayo in 1915; KS98 bayo in 1914- all of which are fairly scarce & difficult to find...
They made large numbers of the Gewehr88 & Gewehr98.

Spandau made 98a rifles are extremely rare & desirable-

The rumors about Amberg P08s come(in my opinion)from the possibility of finding some refurbished-repaired 1908-till 1915 P08s with a crown stamped over the chamber, just over the date. The crowns can be(for what I know) the Amberg one(I've seen one years ago) and the Danzig one(I have a 1910 DWM this way).I add the pics of mine one and of the chambers of both an Amberg and a Danzig Gew.98.
Hope this helps(also for knowing something more about a not well known P08-topic).
