Has anyone ever tried installing a ERMA 22 conversion on an Artillery Luger?

The 22lr barrel insert on my ERMA conversion measures 7-1/4" in length. Could someone tell me what the actual barrel length is on an 1918 DWM Artillery Luger is?

Hummmm:

I wonder if 5/8" short of reaching the end of the barrel on a 8" Artillery Luger with a ERMA 22 conversion installed would be a problem?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated. I guess I will find out on Sunday when I take the pistols to the range.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

George,
Yes it would be a problem. The .22 conversion barrel insert is held in place by two knurled keepers or nuts that have to thread on the muzzle end. With out these the barrel insert would come back under recoil and REALLY mess things up, possibly, including the shooter.

George,
* I agree with Ron!! It seems you are missing (haven't mentioned) an essential component of your Selbstlade-Einsteckläufe(S.E.L.) system. Even if the barrel liner were to not present the danger Ron posted, an unsecured barrel liner wallowing around in a 9mm bore would yield rotten, inconsistent accuracy.
* From John Walter, The Luger Book, Item E45-ERMA S.E.L. für P.08, Pg. 109: "Short-barrel types feature a conical muzzle-shroud (Mündungsschhoner); longer ones, usually 185mm, have the standard 'nut and lock-nut' system."
* 185mm = 7.2835" by the math which is darn near your 7-1/4" measurement.

Well, I guess I will not be trying my ERMA 22 conversion in the artillery Luger anytime soon.

I have the small wooden box ERMA conversion. I read somewhere that ERMA made these 22 conversion for Luger's in different lengths. Has anyone even seen one?
