I found three different types of inscriptions on the slide Jieffeco :

We can also observe changes in the height of the frame : high , low (marked caliber) and very low (the prototype low) without marking caliber .

I have today a great success.
I found evidence that earliest Melior and Jieffeco 1913 looked exactly as in advertising .

Contour is identical . On the slide is written at the bottom " TOUT EN ACIER ".


This is the earliest Melior 1913 that I know.

1- in some postings we discussed the misspelling of TOUT FN ACIER in period ads, which should read TOUT EN ACIER (All out of steel / made entirely out of steel). At the time I attributed it to a simple misspelling of the graphic designer. Now I can see that the designer may have followed what was on the slide. The letter "E" die did not transfer well, so in this sample, it does indeed look like FN instead of EN, a closer look shows that it is indeed a letter E, but the graphic designer may have failed to notice.

2- There is only one grip screw hole per panel located in the center area. I have not encountered this variant before where both grips have the same mounting system. I had spare sets of Melior grips, but of course I am missing this variant, which will be a challenge to find.

I just inherited this same variant and your post is the first time in my research I've seen it. Do you have any other info on this one in particular? Like how to break it down. I would like to clean and oil it. Thanks in advance and good luck on the grip search!

Hello Cory .

Thank you for showing this rare modification the Melior pistol disassembled.

This is very important for studying these pistols.

Is very well that the serial numbers on the parts of your pistol coincide.

You have probably noticed that the later versions have a different way of mount the pistol barrel.

Like many of members of this forum, I have the opportunity to see for the first time this modification dismantled.

I think that this modification was made in an amount of not more than 3000-4000 pieces. (Not taking into account the different form of the safety lever .)

Most likely your pistol was manufactured in the period from 1919-22 year.

In a previous post I explained that I was working on a book about pistols Louis Robar all models and calibers.

About the Browning pistol in the book will be nothing.
Except some links .

A greater extent this a detailed identifier.

Hello Anthony.

Sorry for not answering for a long time.
Work on the book is progressing slowly.
First, the book will be published in Russian.
If I find a good translator, then maybe the next language will be English.
Periodically have to adjust the text, and now you will understand why.

This pistol has no liège stamps other than the R. K. L. stamp on the left side of the trigger guard .
The right grip is original .The left grip is lost .
On the grip destroyed the logo of the Janssens .
I propose to discuss it.

P.S. Unfortunately, this pistol has a European deactivation.
But for me it is not particularly important.
This is a super rare piece !

What is the opening on the top of the slide?

Let me give you some valuable advise. Publish your book bilingual; I can tell you out of experience that you will quickly exhaust your domestic market. Your subject matter is too specialized for just Russian, you need the international market for your book to be successful. Adding English will be a minimal rise in cost for the extra pages, the difference will be minimal compared to a later English edition/version.

The second earliest serial number of the gun melior 1913 , about which I know of.
