I just purchased a 1941 byf luger . My question is were the crowns of the barrels unfinished i.e. bright and shiny and if so why were some blued and others not ? Thanks Stan

Hello,

I hope someone will chime in and back me up on what I am fixing to say. I have no reference to support my comments.
I believe all muzzle crowns were blued when Mauser ended the salt blueing process and went to the hot salt blued pistols. So, in my opinion all Mauser military pistols issued beginning sometime in 1937 were originally produced with a blued muzzle crown. If this is not true I have a lot of near mint Mauser lugers that have been reblued! So I hope I am correct in what I say!

Regards,
