hello all; i know that this is supposed to be strictly a luger forum , but i need some guidance from you more knowledegable collecors. i have an opportunity to purchase a suitcace that contains a pristine C-96 with matching stock s/n orig leather, cleaning rodand some other stuff that i didn't recognize the whole package is in a suitcase about the size of a large briefcase lined with what was origionaly red velvet (since faded to pink). i would sincerely appreciate any info input from the forum. regards to all, --john-- i have discussed this with olefogy, but before i take this whack in the wallet i need second opinions.

A lot more information is needed to even guess at the value of your proposed purchase. Details of the C-96, its accessories and the box for a start. Detailed photographs would be a great help.

If the C-96 is refinished, parts are not matched or original, and its accessories including the box are modern reproductions it would have no collector value with a valus less that $1000.

If it is a rare variation that is all original and matched, with original accessories and box its value could exceed $100,000.

If you do not know very much about the C-96, I would take an expert that you trust with you to make the purchase. I know a fair amount about pistols but would not consider myself sufficiently qualified to make such a the purchase of a boxed C-96 without a lot of study and advice from experts.

thank you gentelmen. i would like to post pics but the gun is in another state 4 hours away. i'll see if the seller will agree to a 3 day inspection ,then i can photograph the whole rig. also if i buy it will be on my C&R, in N.Y that saves a whole lot of sales tax. regards, --john--
