I have an S/42 "G" date, serial 9522 "d", late model, acceptance proofs DE63 DE63 DE. The mismatched magazine is #2641 "d" with DE244 proof. I have another magazine in the "f" series with DE63 proof on it. Would the "correct" magazine for this late "G" have a DE244 or a DE63 proof? Was there a number where a transition occurred or was it just haphazard?

the magazine that you have is not DE244 but DE211 and would think that your DE 63 would be the correct proof for your G date.

Thanks, Huggiebear, for your reply. Of course, you're right, it's DE211. What I don't understand is whether a "d" suffix mag with a DE63 proof would be "correct" and not a "d" suffix DE211 for a late "G" date.

I would expect the proof on the magazine to be the same as the farthest left proof , or the last final acceptance proof , on the receiver but with the G date there is four different sets of proofmarks so one images that there is a certain amount of overlap between different proofs that one could expect to find with these mag proofs and the receiver proofs.

Herb,
* The second page bar chart from Frank M.'s research may be illuminating. http://forums.lugerforum.com/lugerforum/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=000700
* Looks like your pistol is into the dE/63 range. I intuitively think a dE/63 marked mag would be right; but, there is seemingly always exceptions in Lugerville.
* OBTW: What is your "f" block mag S/N?? A 1936 "f" block, I have, drives my interest.

I really appreciate all your input, it really helps. Garfield is right, we are talking about acceptance (waffenamt?) marks. I also believe Huggiebear is correct when he says the left most mark is the same as what should be on the magazine bottom. Frank's extensive thread on the other Forum that started in October, 2003 was exhaustive and solicited examples of marks from the members. I found a more concise chart on page 16 of Jan's Third Reich Lugers that shows that "G" dates from SN 930a - 5000d bore E/211 markings, SN 5000d - 5000f bore DE/63 markings. SN's 5000f - 4500p were 1936 dated and bore DE/63. Of course, before 930a were "K" dates. And by the way, my "f" series magazine has the SN 3839.
