New to the group with many questions. Just as a start I am looking to "date" a 38H...Is there a Date of Manufacture to Serial Number "chart" I might refer to?

You will find a lot of information on production dates in Jim Cate's "J.P. Sauer & Sohn, Suhl", volume I. It's out of print, but still available on a lot of book sites. If you would like, you can e-mail me the serial number, and I would be glad to look it up for you.

Sauer, TNX for the "heads up" on Cate's book and your offer. I have located Vol.1 @ Brocks and will be ordering it ASAP. Pricey ($65.00) piece of reference material but all the ones worth having usually are...The pistol in question, sadly is missing an "original" magazine...It is my understanding that there are several variations differing primarily by floorplate type. Would this book allow one to determine the "proper" variety to seek out?

Odin, If you like Sauers, you'll love Jim's book. Pricey, yes, but a wealth of information in it. You will find production changes for the magazines in it for sure, but you may need to dig through the year by year information to be sure. www.checkpointcharlies.com has several 38-H magazines for sale presently. I'm sure he will be happy to fix you up with the right magazine if he has it. Just e-mail him from his web site. He's one of the good ones. Good collecting!

Sauer, TNX once again for your direction. Visited CheckPoint Charlie's website and it does look like a good one. As soon as it has been determined just what "flavor" of 38H magazine is needed, he will be contacted. Charlie is currently listing one 38H magazine @ $89.00! I'm beginning to think this Sauer thing can be painful to one's wallet!
FYI, I found another outfit in Texas that claims to have 38H Magazines (unknown quantity & type) for $50.00 each. Being that the pistol in question is a "commercial" issue, has seen "use", and is likely not all that noteworthy from a collecting standpoint this may be the route followed.

Odin: Sauer magazines have always been tough to locate and expensive, but the prices have been climbing fast lately. The pistols too are climbing in value, but more slowly, now that more people are discovering them. The first Sauer I purchased cost me $195 four years ago, the last one, a high polish Eagle/C, was $550. They are still undervalued on the market, and it's still possible to pick up a nice one for around $400, but those days may end soon. I assume you refer to Kens Gun Parts as the Texas dealer.I've heard he is very good on Sauer parts. I ment to contact him, but a computer crash two weeks ago stopped me cold. Seems I better get to it again. Best wishes.

Been nursing a Computer bug for the last few days, apologies for my absence. Sauer, the TX dealer I was referring to is Joe Lowe <www.jocoemprise.com>. Upon further investigation it seems that his offerings are of the "plain Jane", variety. He is very specific about informing that he doesn't carry any "collector" magazines. If your need is for "shooters" I imagine he could help out. I wonder if you might pass along the contact information for the "Ken's Gun Parts" you mentioned...?

Pete Ebbink, TNX for the info on contacting Jim Cate. I still do not have his book in hand but it is on the way. I'll be sure to give him a yell if the book does not sufficiently cover my questions. TNX!!

Odin: I hope it's not the Sausser B worm that has bit you. That nasty crippled my Windows 98 system beyond repair, although they say it can't infect 98. Get the Windows patch QUICK, and hook up with Norton Anti-Virus to isolate the problem. What I have written down from before the invasion is: Kens Gun Parts, 1301 Pat Broker Road, Suite D, Universal City, Texas 78148. Phone is 201-658-3130. E-mail (no website) is [email protected], I think. I may be wrong about the e-mail, It's hard to read my notes. Maybe someone could verify this? Hopefully this information will help. Good hunting!
