Hi all, I am hoping for soem advice. I noticed this area (circled) on the bottom rear of the slide from my Grade 2 Vis35 during a detailed stipping. Is this normal? Is the open area for use by the de-cocker? Is there a piece of metal missing? I have inserted a piece of paper into the firing pin hole for contrast.
thanks very much

your picture could be lighter but from what I can determine I would say that it is most unusual and not found on a normal example.

I think I would agree with Huggiebear. The structural integrity is compromised. And sharp point of the fracture is a very weak spot. Prime for a major fracture in the slide. It could result in a very dangerous situation.

It's broken. That's also probably what's causing the malfunctions you described earlier. The slide is snagging on the hammer as the slide starts rearward after firing, slowing down slide velocity and softening the ejection.
