Thanks for staying engaged with the topic! I‘d really like to puzzle this out.

The German Society for Police History (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Polizeigeschichte e.V.) has been working on a series of documentations about the police guns of all post-war states and agencies for several years. Theirs will be the final word as far as the user side is concerned since they have access to all the internal procurement and issuance sources of the German agencies. I have the Bavaria and West Berlin volumes, so the numbers and dates I gave above are solid; unfortunately, the volumes on the Bahnpolizei and Hamburg, the other two users of the FN 1922, have not been published yet.

You say in your book that the US Zone inscription was factory applied; combining that with the 1955 production codes you identified, I wonder whether the Germans may have ordered additional batches of pistols on this Bahnpolizei contract in the 1950s which FN serialed with the first ones, and bureaucracy being what it is, nobody told FN to no longer stamp them as before.
