I recently bought a WaA marked French 1935A pistol at a gun show. The gun had a broken firing pin that I replaced, but I find now that the safety can now only be applied with the hammer down. Is this normal? It seems strange to me that a safety can only be applied in the "at rest" position, but the French did have some odd ideas for firearms. If anyone is interested, the gun came to me in a P35p holster, dyed black inside and out, with the lift strap cut off. The gun and spare magazine seem to fit it quite well.

Check to see if the replacement firing pin is actually sized correctly for the 35A. It has to fit in the groove in the hammer block portion of the (alleged) safety for the safety to be applied with the hammer cocked, as the pin is protruding further out at that time. Easily eyeballed with the hammer back.
