What does the crown over N marking on my Walther Model 4 mean? How about the crown over U on my Broomhandle?

Joe,
To the best of my recollection, by historical period, beginning with the most recent in time:

E/N is the nitro proof used by the Theird Reich indicating that the pistol has been tested with smokeless powder.

C/N is the nitro proof used by the Weimar Republic, formed after the abdication of Kaiser Wilhelm, following the capitulation of Germany to end WW1 (treaty of Versailles).

C/U is a proof used during the reign of Kaiser Wilhelm, previous to, and during WW1. I don't know if the C/U is actually a nitro proof.

Maybe another collector can offer more specific info on this.
