Hello all. I need some assistance... Someone recently offered me - no photos yet - a holster for a TT-33 that he identified as "German modified." I asked what made it a German modification, and he claims that the Germans modified TT-33 holsters by removing the longer belt loops with rings, and replaced them with a single wide leather belt loop set lower behind the flap. I guess this would, in turn, make the holster ride higher on the belt than with the original, longer loops.

My question: Has anyone heard of German-modified TT-33 holsters? I did try to do some internet and book research before posing this question here, and I could not come up with anything. After finding nothing in my limited reference library, I examined photos I could find of Germans/Russians in German service with TT-33s (photos from Pannwitz's Cossacks by François de Lannoy and various internet sources). Most of those photos seem to show standard TT-33 or the "universal" holsters in use. Is there any merit to this "German modified" claim or is it more likely to be just a repair?

Thanks for your time.

I can't say I ever read about them doing it, but wouldn't be surprised if they did. Its always possible it was an individual solder who did the modification. we see a lot of that especially with the French mle 1937 holster for the French 35A guns. I have personally owned 3 different holsters each with it's own different modification. One I still own went so far as to remove the one mag pouch and cut the bottom from another then cut down the side panel for easy extraction of the gun. but looking from the outside the holster looks in original condition.

John,

I've seen the opposite of course! That is German holsters that were modified by the Russians for the TT-33. But I've never heard of a Russian holster modified by the Germans for the TT-33. I gues my first question would be, "Why modify it, if it's already made for the TT-33??" It would be different if it was modified for a German pistol, you know what I mean. Doesn't make sense to me?

Of course photos will help determine it.
