Hi all , can anyone identify this leather holster please ?
Its British and was carried by a Grenadier Guards Officer who served on the Somme, 1916.

I was advised it was for a pistol stock but for which pistol ? It measures 10 1/2 inches in length , 4 1/4 ins at its widest point and 1 3/4 ins at the base.

Any ideas please ?

Thanks
James

I suppose it could be but would one carry it around on their Sam Browne all the time ? The holster has belt loops indicating that it was to be carried , I would suggest regularly. A periscope is certainly a possibility but it would be an odd shaped one !

In the meantime here are some more pics

Regards

Hi.
I own a very similar one. Fitted for a Enfield Nº2 revolver.
The belt loop was designed at the beginnig for a cavalry use,
very horizontal.
Then was reworked for a vertical and belt hung use. In fact, was used by a Lieutenant of the RFA corps in WW1, named A.D, Fischer, 3/252 RFA
whose name is on the flap.and I think for a Mk VI Webley revolver.
This one looks very similar.
