This came with some other WW2 stuff and I have no idea what it is for. It is about 5 1/4 inches wide and about 4 3/4 inches high. About 1 3/8 inches thick. The inside lining looks like green felt.

The letters on the strap that would hold in onto a belt are:
B.A.T.& S. CO.

Could not find any other markings.

Whatever it is .....it sure is kind of a nice one.......

It appears to be a compass pouch.

Tom... I am assuming it is German due to the detail on the leather work. Any idea of period or value?

Found out this weekend that this pouch was US issue and carried a sighting device for artillery weapons. Guy had a bunch of them.... $5 each........ So much for finding the HOLY GRAIL this time around.....
