I suppose the change started with the A series serial numbers. I wonder when the change in post war magazines from aluminum followers to black plastic took place, late 1960s perhaps?

I am not sure what you mean with A series, if you mean the A-prefix of 1944 those were all existing wartime parts so split tail. Split tails were shipped all the way through 1945. Only new production with new machinery brought the change in 1946 with the Danish contract being one of the first with push button.

Synthetic followers were gradually replaced in 1962 through 1963. Military contracts got them first with commercial sales last. There was no practical reason, only economics. I have a period memo with price comparison but opted not to put it in the new book as FN could consider that privileged information.
