I saw a WaA140 all parts matched pistol today.Ser#176xxx.It had wood grips and the inside of the grips were painted orange/red.If I am correct in my research these grips would HAVE NOT been issued with this pistol.Am I correct? How can you tell the difference between early paint grips and post war paint grips? Thanks for the help.

That pistol was indeed delivered without red paint on the grips. The red paint was one of the first things the Germans eliminated in the production process. There are little to no differences between prewar and early postwar wooden FN grips. Some of the markings can be an indicator but nobody seems to go that far into detail. Most collectors do not mind the markings as long as the finish and grips are correct.
Thank you Sir for the help.
