Picked up 4 boxes of Interarms Mauser 30 ammo to use in my C96. Upon closer observation I see that the box label says 7.62x25MM (30 Mauser).
That's a bit concerning.
So is this safe to shoot in my C96?

I shot it in a C96 with no ill effects, besides the ammo being corrosive. So a good clean is needed after shooting.

It's old ammo so don't expect miracles.

The key is not 7.62 or 7.63, but the muzzle velocity. It is easy to verify, shoot from a cheap $200 Norinco, measure the bullet muzzle velocity. If above 1200fps, avoid it on $2000 C96.

Another trap is cartridge case. Many 7.62 pistol cartridge case is steel. It hurts extractor if your gun is a nice one.

The 10 round average muzzle velocity of DWM 403 is about 1300fps. 1100, 1200 should be OK. Even 1250 is OK. But this thing is old now, safer at 1200.

old old ammo, Soviet make (plant 539-Tula and 38-Chelyabinsk), likely originally for the TT33/PPSh, hence 7.62x25. Czech made ammo from then was even hotter.

Sorry for my late reply. Appreciate the response! Think I better hold off on shooting this ammo through the C96.
