I have all those questions to.As far as proof i think mine lends a little with the strike over the serial number. The barrel is 23667
which happens to be the serial number as the frame before it was over struck.And it does happen to have a ua 47 or ja 47 on it.The barrel being the same number as the frame may be more proof.Who knows maybe they sold the lot of them on the old shot gun news in the late 40s or 50s

Thanks for posting that. The Government needed money it would make sense to refurbish and sell left over guns.
I am led to believe this gun went threw that process!

Well the AF was made up of 12,000 pilots and aircrew, 6,100 non-flying officers and 185,000 other ranks in the Air Force in 1940. I can only think it must have been around 25,000 say to 35,000
