I need some help? I have am thinking about buying a 1914 mauser pistol that on the back of the pistol has Japanese markings in a circle. he wants $400.00 for it. Its really nice shape about 99%
Is it a rare pistol?

Also I have 1914 Mauser pistol military issue .On the strap has the unit markings L.P. 495 Pistol is all matching the clip has the number 495 on it. Is this WW1 markings or 1920 peroid markings??

Could it be landjaegerei Potsdam District Pistol 495?

Bob,
This pistol was unit marked between 1920 and 1929. The Landjaegerei were formed in 1920 from the Landgendarmarie which had existed since 1812. The WWI Allies felt the Landgendarmarie was too military in character. Until they were rearmed in 1929 with 9mm Lugers, these units were armed with M1914 Mauser and Dreyse sidearms.
