The only thing that possibly beats a 1911 system as a small arms platform with regard to longevity without substantial design modification that is wildly successful is the S&W model 10
I finally picked up my first 1911 about a week or so ago (although not a 1911A1 -- mine's from 1918). I own a ton of Lugers and think they're very cool, but as an American, I couldn't be more proud for the 1911!
