WWII service pistols have raised in value quickly these years.
You arent my target market if Im making them. But take the byf in this thread. S42 or blank barreled byf. Add lza on the barrel. Sand the proofs flat on the right. Add luft. Bang Ku on the left. Strip and dip.

Wah Lah! Ku with an "old refinish" for sale
I liked you post but we both know that there is much more to it than that! While true some, a few actually, Ku Lugers are byf toggel marked most by far are 41/42 guns! Now you could buy up byf 41 guns and then start buying up 42 toggles and removing numbers without showing any signs (good luck with all that!) and creating 41/42 guns …..keep all serial numbers below about 4500 and get the prefix and suffix correct for the serial range you are “creating” be sure to leave the rear toggel blank of a number and no trace of the number you had to remove…..all firing proofs removed as well and lots of correct dies for new serials, LW acceptance and 42 and s/42 marks… lots of fun! If you pay yourself $20 and hour you can probably make one and only loose about $2000. Sort of the Solyndra business model! Losing 2k per piece is something that one can not make up on volume!
Seriously, I truly wonder what a full professional level fake cost in terms of manhours? Meaning a complete scrub with all proper machine and tool marks replaced, all re-stamped with perfect dies and perfect strikes, refinish either salt or rust blue with re-straw In inside polishing on the later and doing all this on a gun thats pretty nice to begin with so that bore is minty and there are no pits that require welds to fill. A LOT more to all this than I just jotted down I know but can this work be done today for $2000 or $3000 (not counting gun and parts added) or is it $4000 plus $2000-$3000 donor gun? Anyone have their car repaired lately? Were you able to pay the ransom to get it back from the shop?

While I agree with all of this , I think there are some guys who do it because “they can “ . I think they get jollies out of it unfortunately

Agree also.
Kinda comes down to who you are trying to fool.
Like ANY luger if buyer has one or more honest examples and is familiar with same probably hard to fool them.

Not to mention it is hard to change or add-takeaway markings under factory finish.

...and it will be a very obvious fake, too. Easy to spot. 😂

What do you think of the gun this thread is about? Obvious fake, or legit refinished gun?

Not enough details visible. But looks pretty bad based on these 2 photos.
I think it's just refurbished. Not a total fake assembled from parts.

well interestingly Kü are assembled from parts- spare parts
Haha, all guns were assembled from parts. Who did it was the key. If assembled by factory or government contractors, it is called a variation. If assembled by me, it's called a parts gun :)
