K date Question

The Early K dates have a "S" stamped on the guns parts.....does anyone know why??....Apparently early Krieghoffs and Simpson Lugers also had "S" as a chamber date....could these stampings be related to the Year of Manufacture??

The various "S"'s on K date Lugers are like the numerous crown/scriptic letter stamps on Erfurt Lugers, and the various numerous eagle stamps on Simson and Krieghoff Lugers. They signify inspection/acceptance of the part stamped.
