I had never seen a Mauser made G-date with the type of mill marks present on the 01 chamber. Has anyone?(same mill marks are present on sn 24)

I can's see them. Where are they stamped?
Is that some sort of plug over the sling cut out on the right side?

Pardon my ignorance, but even if the SS runes on the k98 were period stamped in the stock of K98 - does that make it an SS contract gun? In the absence of any other stamps or documentation? Again, I have no experience with SS marked K98 rifles, so really would like to know from someone who does have experience with them. Is RyanE following this thread?

I don’t think you can fake those longitudinal machine marks on top of the chamber(unless you remill the top of the receiver and refinish the whole gun). They look perfect. I have no idea if they are correct for a G-date Krieghoff. You do see them on early S-codes.
