My father passed away, and left me a model 1938 DWM Luger, but I am having trouble figuring out exactly what I have on my hands. It is serial Number 9828 with an "N" suffix. It also has a very small eagle with the #6 under it on two of the parts. On the grip-strap it has the been stamped "Ktdr.Jbg.7", although I can't figure out what unit or group or whatever that abbreviation belonged to. Any help would be appreciated. I was also wondering the approximate value of it. Thanks.

Bill, welcome to the forum! Les is correct, pictures tell a thousand words. Being a 1938, it was made in the nazi era. It should be marked S/42 on the top toggle?

If correct it probably also has an eagle 63 on the right of the frame. The range reported on 1938s is 400b through 4500n, so yours is a bit higher than that. It is always possible that it is an "m", they look a bit the same. Here is a link that you may or may not be able to view, but it shows the differences in the suffixes:

I am unsure about the unit marking, and hopefully others can chime in.

Also, a truely matching gun has the last two digits on many parts of the gun. Did you have any "bring-back" paperwork or story that came with the gun? Holster, tool, etc?

william: Your description of your pistol is more than a bit confusing, at least to me. If your pistol was made in 1938 it was not made by DWM. More probably your luger is of pre-1934 origin if for no other reason than the gripstrap markings appear to be Weimar.

If, as DodLes suggests, you could post some pictures which show the markings found on the top of the pistol, bottom of barrel, front of frame, grip strap and both sides of the pistol you will certainly receive the assistance of the members in helping you identify your luger.

I am thinking this gun may be a result of two or more guns, and as soon as I can get some pics of it, I will upload them. On the bottom of the barrell near the frame it says "1084" I assume that is the serial #, but on the front of the frame right under the barrell it says "9828, with an N under it" It looks as though there are two different serial #'s there. The other parts don't have the same last two #'s. The locking pin has #75 with a eagle and a G under it, as does a couple of the other small parts. The side of the gun above the locking pin also has 1084. It definately says 1938 on the top side by the barrel, and also a DWM logo set farther back towards the rear of the gun. I'll try to get a camera and get pics of it, as that might make it a lot easier to tell what has been done to this firearm.

Take lots of pictures Bill, and that will help a lot. Is it possible that the 1084 is actually 8,84 ?
