I was just looking at the rear sights on my 1916 and 1917 Artilleries. First time I have noticed the difference. This may be common knowledge to some, but were the rear sights made under contract? Or did DWM just re-engineer them later in the war? The blade is much heavier on the 1917, and the elevator is calibrated a bit farther forward, to make up for the variance in the thickness of the slide.

Ron, I thought that what you were referring to was a difference due to the 1917 period withdrawal of the fine tune sight. It appears that both of your pistols have the fine tune rear sight. This being the case, I need to go upstairs and drag out my guns.

It sure as hell looks like a change was made. This is quite interesting.

Geo, On closer inspection. The blade appears to be a replacement. I thought I saw a number stamped on it, but it isn't numbered. And there isn't an elevation index mark on the side. All other parts of the sight are correct. At some point in it's life the blade has been replaced.:(
Sorry for the false alarm. Ron

Does anyone have an artillery adjustable sight blade #75?
Please check your pockets. One is missing. :)
