Hi all,
Recently a major French collector of photos and postcards relatives to WW1 German army provided me with two extraordinary pics from its outstanding collection . I realize that pics show some Bavarian Machinegewehr men/officers equiped with the ultra rare LP08 prototype holster for specific LP wooden case.
Till now,i thought ,like most of other Luger collectors, these extremly rare holsters/wooden cases were never issued as no document/photo had appeared.
Please ,review and comment .
Guy

Harry, The holster looks that way since it is more of a "bag" to hold the stock. It has to be somewhat roomy for extraction & insertion. You can see it's quite bulky.

But if you look closely at Guy's photo you will see it is VERY high quality. Just not overly formed like the standard Artillery holster.

Guy, I am at a loss for words on your photo's! In the MG photo almost everyone has one of these! Thanks for sharing. Like getting a good photo of a Unicorn.

Guy,
thanks for posting.
A most interesting rig and visual proof of use! We still find out new info- after 105 years!

Both stock and holster you show are in beautiful condition, amazing.

With the picture dated 1915, looks like the "prototype" was actually carried into use- some nearly 2 years into the war: as were others of the expedient and early design holsters.
But then why waste good equipment?

Mr Burney was my Father. If I could actually think all that well I would have a real job. As it is..This is a fascinating subject and holster. Unfortunately the holster shown that is offered by Eugene is pathetic. Even a Japanese toy company would be ashamed of something like this.
The real deal is the one George shows in post #33. A very fine turn of the Century piece of leather fabricated by superior craftsmen of the old World. Not likely to be decently replicated in the 21st Century by me or Zimmermann & company. Some things are just rare and that's the way it is.
