Smitty, it sounds like your gun shop guy knows what he's talking about. The emblem you describe in the grip sounds alot like a Hitler Youth pin. These things were very commonly inset into Luger wooden grips by G.I.s. You can be assured that the GI art work reduced the collector value of the pistol.

Roger, Can you post some closer, clearer photos of both sides and the top? Are there and markings on the front grip strap? Letters and numbers etc?
Better photos would be needed to help evaluate it. If it is a reblue, then $750 would be more than fair.

Smitty,
Although the photo of the left side is not very clear, it looks as if the left grip has the cutout on the upper left corner for a magazine safety and, if I squint, I think I see a sear safety. If so, this pistol was issued to the police and I will be particularly interested in the answers to Ron's questions and in knowing whether there is a script lower-case letter under the serial number on the front of the frame.

Roger, It is a reblue. The trigger, safety, take down lever and mag release should be a yellowish straw color. And there is some pitting visible that is under the blue. I would say the that the actual value would be in the $500-$600 range, as is. It is now considered a shooter and no longer has collector value.
