My Fatherbrought back a 9mm Luger back from Germany after WWll. This luger #6696t has all matching #'s. The bottom of the barrel has a crown over N, below that, the Ser# and below the Ser# is a cursive L. The left side of the reciever is th Ser#, and next to it is the crown over N. On the right side of the reciever, there appears to be a bird with open wings, and under the bird are the letters..WIA63...or68 as best as I can make out. The mag has the Ser# with a 3 over it. The backstrap has the lug on it. And the front strap has L.Sta.147. stamped on it. I took off the grips and found that the Left one was marked EO Then there is a stamp that has 653 with a crest above it which looks like a bird with sraight lines for wings. Any help would be a great asset to me.

It appears that you have a 29 DWM, sn 6696t with Prussian State Police unit stamp L.Sta.147 (Landjagerei Stade weapon number 147). Brief description below:

Lugers in the “s”, “t” and “u” suffix serial range were manufactured by DWM (BKIW) during 1929 and early 1930. Many went to the Prussian State Landjagerei (force of 9000) and bear ‘L” unit markings. The Landjagerer unit marked Lugers are almost all confined to the 29 DWM Lugers. Most of these Lugers with Landjagerer unit markings bear an Eagle/WaA66 stamp on the right receiver. The Eagle/WaA66 stamp is only reported on 29 DWM Lugers. (See page 31-34 Weimar Lugers for more detail)

See the link below for a more complete description.

Les, glad to see you made it.

Here is some basic info (pictures of the entire gun, close ups also would help prove or disprove these thoughts):

Your gun is serial number 6696 t

It appears to have a police magazine, i.e. the 3 means 3rd magazine for a police gun, extra army ones were marked with a +.

The L.Sta.147 would equal L Landjagerei (rural constalbury) Sta. Stade weapon number 147

In 1933 the early nazi's added a sear safety and magazine safety to their guns. Does yours have this, see if your model looks like mine:
