Can someone tell me what is meant by a "Navy 1920 re-work"? How is it re-worked. What are the characteristics? Any info appreciated.

Hi Ron,

The Versailles treaty banned long-barrel pistols. This means all arty's and navy's that remained in service had to have their barrels replaced. As the navy rear sight and the arty barrel rear sight are no longer functional with short barrels, the rear toggle end needed to be replaced also.

If they were in German army use in 1920, they'd have a 1920 property stamp added as well.

Hi,

Just for completeness sake:
There are 1917 Navy reworks too, where the function of the safety-lever of the old 1904's was reversed to match the later ones. Deletion of old 'gesichert' stamping and new placement of 'gesichert' in the top location.

The top half will turn up with a matching bottom as will the bottom with a matching top.

If one wishes to play in Navy Lugers, one needs to be *very* careful and have a great data base....WaffenfabrikAmerika is alive and well.

Tom, I just discovered that the re-work was purchased at a really good price by a well known member of the forum. The only way I could be happier about it,is if I had ended up with it. No worries about it being foisted off on some Newbie. It found a good home.Now I just have to pry it loose from the new owner
