I think the Letter suffix started in 1943. So, you would have 1a-9999a then 1b-9999b. In spring of 1944, they only put the last three digits plus letter on the frame and this was in the b suffix......Any help?

I have never seen anything in print that shows exactly when in 43 they started the suffix, could have been mid 43. Also, I am not sure how many were made a month at this point in the war. I think you would be safe to say "1943". Hopefully someone has more specific information on production, I would like to see it.
