I've been looking at a 1938 "O" marked navy at a local gunshop. The piece is a strong 99% with matching mag. They are asking 3,400.00 for the piece. I plan on keeping if I buy. Is this a fair price?

thanks,

jeff

Jeff, First of all, welcome to the Luger forum. There are a number of things that contribute to the price of a Luger. Be patient, and I am sure someone with knowledge of your 1938o. By the way (TAKE PICS) and post them if you can. Pictures speak volumes. With reguards Les

If one has a strong 99% luger that is all matching and original, then that in itself is becoming rare. If one has a Kreigsmarine luger with the stated condition then that is a keeper of the first order. Price and quality always goes hand in hand and in this case , the price is in the ballpark, IF , as you say everything is correct and original !!!

jeff, what is being hinted at, is that navy guns are very valuable and thus faked! $3,400 is a bit of money and unless you are sure, you sure don't want to buy a no-good piece. I would ask to take lots of pictures that you can post here. If the seller isn't willing to let you take pictures, I would beware...

Guys,
Thanks for the info. I went back to buy the piece today and it was sold!! :) Oh well. I've collected German small arms on and off for several years. I'm just now getting back into the Luger collecting. Trying to duplicate the pieces I had before my divorce. Anyway, I picked up a really nice tanget hi-power at the last Show Of Shows in Louisville. I'll put some photos up soon. Also, this year, I've picked up a 1918 DWM all matching with matching clip. A 1917 Erfurt with a matching clip, 1917 DWM reissued Police P08 with a matching 1939 dated holster. And last and least a AC44 P38. I'll post pics over the next couple of weeks of all of these for you guys. The first 2 mentioned are screamers!
There's a great story with the hi-power. A old guy was walking around the SOS trying to sell the hi-power rig. He said that he'd brought it home from the war. I bought it for 1,150.00 and walked off. Later a friend on mine showed me what I'd missed. The old guy had a duffle bag full of eagle "C" walthers that I missed!! Oh well, cheers!!
