Hello collectors, my grandfather has asked me to sell his luger taken home from the war by his Brother. I have read some of the stickies and the serial number seems out of place from what I have learned so far. I will list all the markings and can upload photos later if needed. This weapon has dark bluing, walnut grips, and a black bakelite butted magazine with matching numbers, all the other parts match as well.

front top of receiver - 41

rear left side of receiver - P.08 with round period

front face of receiver, barrel and mag marked 133, receiver has cursive L (?) below the number, all other parts have just 33

front right side of receiver marked twice by inspector 655 with eagles above, eagle with no number adjacent on rear of right side of barrel

bottom rear of barrel has 133 above the 8,82 gauge marking

magazine has 133 on flat side, left bottom marked fxo above eagle above 37, P.08 facing flat side down

Is the serial number on the left side of the receiver followed by or preceded by two letters?

There are no letters in any of the serial numbers only 133. I just took some photos but will have to resize them before I can upload...

Hi--Your luger is a 1941 dated, Mauser-manufactured, military luger serial number 133z. It was made in the later part of 1941. The grips show the wear of hard use or rough conditions. I expect they are serial-numbered to this pistol as all the visible parts are original and serial-numbered to this pistol. The finish was rough and at some point blued-over. It is one of the common WW2 lugers and a fascinating piece of history. Congratulations and thanks to your relative for bringing back this luger from his service.

Thanks, the grips do have matching numbers as well.
My Great Uncle had this weapon held to his head in France at the end of the war, the officer then handed it to him and surrendered. He lived in the south which would explain the surface rust and re-blueing. He must have used it as I found it with Remington ammo in the mag, the internals are well oiled and the bore looks very good to the naked eye.
Anyone have a ballpark on the value?
