P under serial number PP pistols

I just picked up a P under the serial number PP #1247xx / P. It is numbered on the slide and the frame. I know the recent auto mag article labeled this a probable SS gun and therefore I did pay dearly for it. (In case you think I stumbled onto a treasure) However, I'm wondering how many are out there. This is the only one I've ever seen, but I know there are more reported. Anyone else have one, or know of others.... and what is the serial # range.
