i have a replacement for the current damaged spring. i don't want to repeat the performance of the previous owner, whom it appears tried in a not very elegant fashion to remove the spring but only succeeded in mangling it. any tips for how to install the new spring without distorting it?

just squeeze it a bit and install it thru the hole..
