Guy at church wanted me to fix his “luger” which was a disassembled P38. I am guessing its a post war import: importer stamp on tang, parkerized type finish and black plastic grips. The holster is cool and cant find any markings. I am not a P38 expert. Anyone else observe anything?

I posted to your other thread. The holster is a "drop holster" design, issued with the pistol. Markings are probably NATO stock markings.

The model designation should be on the left side of the slide as seen in the picture below; either P1 or P.38. I'd guess it's a P1. There should also be a date such as 9/86 indicating September, 1986. That's the manufacture date. Regardless, it's one of the newer versions with the hex pin in the frame which reduces stress on the frame during recoil. It's worth keeping.
