I have moved out of anyones comfort zone and bought a bad investment 😊. I don’t really care , because I find it fascinating. For all the reasons it shouldn’t exist , I can’t connect the dots to prove it’s bad ( yet) . So here it is and it’s mine , 😆

The other element of the puzzle is that if it was made with a byf host no suffix from 1942. The barrel would have a barrel gauge on it. They didn’t start dropping the barrel gauge until later in 1942 and no suffix was in the first week of January. Also as highlighted in the photos the barrel has E/135 stampings on it so it’s definitely a 1942 Mauser barrel

Explain the issues please 😊
The most obvious problem is the fake toggle. The SN is obviously fake and the logo could be fake also. A y block commercial gun would not have been fully accepted and proofed by the WaA, and if it were a military gun diverted to the police it wouldn't be a commercial y block serial. Side plate is a mess too.

What happened IMO, is someone took parts from a standard byf42 and tweaked it into an OrPo gun. They added the OrPo E/L where the E/N would normally go, and added a fake toggle. Something looks off with the frame markings ('y' looks a little too wide) so it may have been faked also. I'm not certain on that.

Save your money for a legit one with no questions. These are not exactly rare.

I definitely have a raised eyebrow and issues with the toggle as well. As astutely pointed out by Ryan. It really should have a byf toggle with the military firing proof on the breech block. I think where I am having an issue excepting that it’s fakery is with the really great installation of the sear safety and the eagle L stamping seems very good to me. The other thing that is puzzling is the really poor finish overall on the gun. It has definitely not been re-blued . If anything the blue is super thin . Under very intense light and macro photography I can’t find any areas of refinish . The Y block stamping on the frame is really done perfectly and shows no signs of any re-blue whatsoever . Y block is definitely a place where police guns hang out
