I removed the grip on my PPK and noticed a "2 44" stamped into the frame. Is this the date of manufacture? 291741 K is the serial number. It has eagle over N markings. the finish is bright blue with little wear around the muzzle and tang. I have always assumed that by the serial number range it was made in 1940-1. There are no WaA marks on the firearm. Nowhere in my books is there a mention of the meaning of the stamping hidden under the grip
