This High Power was originally thought to be a part of the pre-war French contract. However, the factory ledgers indicate that it was commercial production. The commercial examples, in this configeration, have been noted in the high 10,000 serial number and the low 11,000 serial number range. Only a few examples are known to be in collections.

It appears that this Hi-Power was used by the Germans in WWII since it was in the factory at the time the Germans occupied Belgium and FN.

(The following information was provided by Anthony Vanderlinden)
This Hi-Power has been documented as being entered on the factory ledgers on 30 August 1938 and shipped to the Belgian distributor Schroeder on 03 Janaury 1939. Schroeder was the largest domestic distributor, responsible for all domestic sales, as well as some foreign contract sales. (For example, all 1910 pistols that went to Japan, passed through Schroeder.) The next ledger entry shows that this pistol was returned to the factory on 18 July 1939. According to the factory ledgers, it was again returned to the factory on 31 January 1946 and subsequently sent to the Belgian military on 13 March 1946.

The marks on the barrel are the caliber and the Belgian proofs. They are the 'government' official proofs and do not represent FN. Consequently, they could be found on other firearms that were made in Belgium.
